Ayia Napa

Children will love the Marine Life museum or the new Sea Museum, “Thalassa”, in Agia Napa. Or you could stop off at the tiny estuary known by the locals as “Potamos” and watch the fishing boats haul in their catch in their multicoloured baskets.

Paralimni is today a small progressive town which combines the pros of the traditional village and the comforts of the modern city. Modern shops, clubs, amusement centres and offices are located next to the traditional coffee shops and old stores. The central square with the coffee shops has the intense characteristics of the big old village.

Famagusta’s golden sandy beaches lie inside the government-controlled area. The beaches stretch out in the far eastern corner of Cyprus. Ayia Napa and Paralimni are just some of the few paradises for those who love the sea as well as water sports.
Some of the places tourists visit in the charming scenery is Ayia Napa’s tiny fishing harbour, the mediaeval monastery, the small churches and windmills which are extremely close to each other and spreads out into the areas of Protaras and Paralimni.
This region is also one of the major potato-producing areas on the island. This area is also known as red-soil villages or Kokkinochoria.
This is because the soil in this area is deep red in color. The reddish color is due to the fact that the area has a lot of very high metal oxide. An interesting note is that the villages near Famagusta are known for their folk-poet who are the best on the island.
